
The 13th edition of the Ibero-American Film Week launches this evening, Tuesday, at 7:30 PM at Instituto Cervantes in Cairo, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain and several Latin American embassies. Screenings will run from October 7 to 19.
This year’s program presents a curated lineup of fiction and documentary films that reflect the cinematic landscape of Ibero-American countries. The selection explores a wide range of themes, celebrating the cultural and natural richness of the region while highlighting the vitality and evolution of Spanish- and Portuguese-language cinema. Featured films represent Chile, Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Spain, Portugal, and Mexico.
The screenings begin with La Mirada y el Muro (The Eye and the Wall) from Guatemala on Tuesday, October 7, followed by Un Mundo para Julius (A World for Julius) from Peru on Wednesday, October 8, and Made in Argentina (Made in Argentina) from Argentina on Thursday, October 9. On Friday, October 10, the Uruguayan film (Pichu) will be shown, followed by La Estrella Azul (The Blue Star) from Spain on Saturday, October 11.
The program continues with the Cuban film (Habanastation), followed by the Ecuadorian title Inadaptado, ¿realmente lo eres o solo lo aparentas? (Misfit, Are You Really or Just Pretending?) on Sunday and Monday, October 12 and 13. On Tuesday, October 14, Gauguin y el Canal (Gauguin and the Canal) from Panama will be screened, followed by Algunas Bestias (Some Beasts) from Chile on Wednesday, October 15. The Mexican film La Familia P. Luche (The Noble Family) will be shown on Thursday, October 16, followed by Colores (Colors) from the Dominican Republic on Friday, October 17, and Bela América (Beautiful America) from Portugal on Saturday, October 18. The program concludes on Sunday, October 19 with the Cuban film Jericó, el infinito vuelo de los días (Jericó, The Final Journey of Days).
Each screening opens with a brief introduction and discussion in Arabic (no translation provided), followed by the film in its original language with English subtitles. All screenings are held at Instituto Cervantes in Dokki. Admission is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event is a joint initiative by Instituto Cervantes and the Embassy of Spain in Cairo, in partnership with the embassies of Mexico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Portugal, Cuba, Chile, and the Dominican Republic. It forms part of ongoing efforts to promote cultural exchange and foster cinematic dialogue across borders.
